  1. These instructions (click here for PDF) and your checksheet. You’ll also need to check the Student Link to find out what time you register.
If you have not yet turned in your Academic Conduct Code Affirmation, you will be blocked from registration!

  2. A Class selection list  (created by you using the WebReg planner)
    • Which courses should I take?  See below
    • What material is covered in a course?  Course descriptions are available in the Undergraduate Bulletin (www.bu.edu/bulletins or at the UPO) and on the Course Description page on the Virtual UPO.  Please pay special attention to the pre-requisites listed.
    • When do classes meet (day, time)?  The University Class Schedule is available on the Student Link: www.bu.edu/studentlink under ‘Academics.’
  3. How do I use my Planner? How do I register?  Your planner is available through the Student Link and you will also use the Student Link to register. At Orientation, most of you already used the Link to plan and register for courses. If you need a refresher on using either of these functions, we encourage you to talk to your SM121 TA or stop by the UPO.  Screen shots for this procedure are also available in the UPO.

  4. When do I register? The Student Link tells you the date and time that registration will become available to you. You will be unable to access the registration function of the Student Link prior to this time. All freshmen will register on Sunday, November 15th.

  5. Still have questions? The UPO will begin walk-in advising specifically for Freshmen on Monday, November 9th through November 16th. See above for the Walk-in Advising Hours Schedule.

Freshmen!  It’s time to think about an entirely new set of courses.  Here is a general guide on what to take:

  • SMG SM 122 A1 and the *SAME* B discussion section as you’re in now - please note the room change if applicable!!
  • plus 3 non-SMG courses. In choosing your non-SMG courses, please consult your checksheet to determine your remaining requirements.
    • If you have not yet taken MA 121 or MA123, you must complete it before sophomore year. If you have not yet taken EC 101, you must complete it before sophomore year.
    • It is strongly encouraged that you enroll in the next course in your writing sequence (WR097 is followed by WR 098, followed by WR 100 then WR 150.  WR150 is the terminal writing course).

Additional Courses

Because SM 122 is a 6-credit course, you should plan to fill out a Tuition Waiver for Course Overload form if you are taking any 1- or 2-credit courses next year (PDP, music courses, etc.).

Planning Ahead for optional Summer Courses

At BU:
  • WebReg for summer courses begins in March
  • You should speak with an advisor about planning for these courses and refer to your checksheet for your remaining requirements
  • Tentative SMG summer course offerings can be found here.
Elsewhere:
  • You must have courses pre-approved by the appropriate department if you intend to have them count towards your Boston University degree
  • No management courses are accepted in transfer
  • You must earn a grade of “C” in the course for it to count
  • No more than 60 transfer credits may be applied to your BU degree
  • Use the credit conversion chart on the back of your checksheet if you plan to take courses at a school that is not on a 4-credit system
  • Click here for the Transfer of Credit form.
